1. A federal jury in Fort Lauderdale has convicted a 44-year-old former actor and movie producer, Van Eman, of conspiracy, wire fraud and money laundering related to his role in a financing scheme that defrauded movie and theater producers of more than $60 million. Eman is scheduled to be sentenced on July 21 and faces potentially several decades in prison. (Miami Patch)

2. The Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, taking place this weekend at Hard Rock Stadium, is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of people to the area. In anticipation of the increase in traffic, a number of road closures will go into effect beginning later this week. (CBS Miami)

3. South Florida residents are reacting to the possibility of Roe v. Wade being overturned. Hours after the unprecedented leak of a Supreme Court draft opinion, pro-choice advocates in Miami and in Fort Lauderdale said the abortion rights landscapes already changing in Florida could become unrecognizable. A handful of counter protesters appeared at a Fort Lauderdale rally. (WSVN)

4. Police are investigating a drive-by shooting in a northwest Miami-Dade neighborhood that left a teen dead Wednesday morning. The shooting happened around 10 a.m.in the 7100 block of Northwest 14th Place, just blocks from Miami Northwestern Senior High School. (NBC Miami)

5. Wage growth in the Miami area is below the national average annual increase in large metropolitan areas of 4.8% in compensation costs and 5% annually in wages and salaries. Miami also saw its unemployment rate go up to 3% in March from 2.8% in February. (Miami Today)

The award for the competition went to four students from two Miami middle schools and one high school earning each student $1,000 in cash. (South Florida Times)
  • Miami-Dade County jails charge inmates $2 a day for room and board, a fee that is rarely paid and creates a shadow economy behind bars that administrators want to eliminate. Unpaid inmate accounts total $72 million over seven years. (WLRN)
  • The City of Miami Beach will hold a street sign unveiling for Elie Wiesel Way at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 5 along the northwest corner of Pride Park at 1700 Convention Center Dr. (Twitter)
