Man Killed In Confrontation With Miami-Dade Police

An unidentified man was killed Friday night in a confrontation with Miami-Dade police following a crash at a construction zone.

MIAMI, FL — An unidentified man was killed Friday night in a confrontation with Miami-Dade police following a crash at a construction zone in southwest Miami-Dade, according to Miami-Dade police.

Detective Alvaro Zabaleta of the agency said the police shooting was being investigated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, which investigates all shootings involving county police officers. The incident occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m.

Zabaleta said the man who was killed was in a blue Toyota Corolla that matched the description of a vehicle involved in an earlier shooting in the 7600 block of SW 153 Court.

"Responding officers observed a vehicle, matching the description of the subject's vehicle, traveling southbound on SW 162 Avenue," Zabaleta said. "Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the subject refused and fled westbound on SW 88 Street."

Officers from the Priority Response Team were at the crash scene, Zabaleta said.

"A confrontation with the subject ensued and shots were fired," Zabaleta said. "Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and pronounced the subject deceased on the scene."

Zabaleta said another male was taken to a local hospital in stable condition from the earlier shooting incident. No police officers were injured.
