Miami Beach Imposes Curfew Amid Florida's Coronavirus Spike

MIAMI BEACH, FL — Days after making facial coverings mandatory in public spaces, Miami Beach officials imposed a citywide curfew Wednesday to reduce the number of people out at night.

The measure follows several social media videos of young people disregarding social distancing requirements, including one incident where shots were fired outside a restaurant along Ocean Drive.

The curfew runs from 12:30 a.m. to 5 a.m. with the exception of fire, police and hospitality workers. including people involved with the transportation of patients, people making emergency utility repairs, physicians making emergency calls, essential travel for medical services or medication and food delivery.

"All retail stores, including package liquor stores, grocery stores, convenience stores and gasoline service/filling stations" that sell alcoholic beverages for off-premises consumption must stop selling alcohol after 8 p.m.

"All restaurants must close for dine-in and take-out between the hours of 12:01 a.m. and 6 a.m." city officials said. "Only delivery services are permitted between the hours of 12:01 a.m. and 6 a.m.

Miami-Dade County has also ordered hotels to close their swimming pools from 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. over the Fourth of July holiday weekend from Friday through Monday. Click here to read the county’s order. All county beaches will also close for the weekend.

"The city of Miami Beach has also created a Hospitality Education and Enforcement Team comprised of personnel members from police, fire prevention, code compliance and Ocean Rescue," Miami Beach officials said. "This multidisciplinary team is dedicated to ensuring hospitality and restaurant establishments are abiding by all emergency measures in order to maintain a safe experience for residents and visitors."
