2 Arrested In Death of Child: Miami-Dade's Top Prosecutor
Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle announced the arrests of two men in connection with the death of a 7-year-old girl.

MIAMI, FL — Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle on Thursday announced the arrests of two men in connection with the drive-by shooting death of a a 7-year-old girl in Miami's Brownsville neighborhood.
"This child's life had value and meaning and deserved the respect that the two individuals now in custody refused to give her," Fernandez Rundle told reporters.
Twenty-two-year-old Antonio Robinson of Margate, Florida and 23-year-old Jarvis Baker-Flanders of Homestead were each charged with second-degree murder with a weapon and attempted first-degree murder with a deadly weapon. In addition, Baker-Flanders was charged with shooting or throwing a deadly missile, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and discharging a firearm from a vehicle.

Baker-Flanders was arrested in Georgia and is pending extradition.
Seven-year-old Alana Washington was shot in the head on July 25. A 1-year-old boy was shot in the thigh while a 23-year-old woman was shot in the torso. A 24-year-old man was struck in the right shoulder and neck.

Court documents said the victims were returning home from a Miami flea market when the occupants of a gray Nissan Altima opened fire on them.
"The four victims stopped their vehicle in front of a residence located in the 2900 block of NW 51 Street," according to Miami-Dade police. "As they exited their vehicle, a four-door vehicle approached them and began firing in their direction, striking the victims."
A 19-year-old man, who was described as a witness, returned fire, according to court documents.
Fernandez Rundle was joined by Miami-Dade Police Director Alfredo "Freddy" Ramirez III, U.S. Marshal Gadyaces Serralta and the child's mother, Shanlavie Drayton among others.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue took the shooting victims to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center where Washington died. The shooting occurred shortly after 8 p.m.
Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers offered a reward of up to $55,000 for information leading to the arrest of those responsible.
