Miami-Dade Cop Identified In Bicycle Crash

Miami-Dade police on Monday identified the officer involved in a car crash that claimed the life of a 35-year-old ​bicyclist.

MIAMI, FL — Miami-Dade police on Monday identified the officer involved in a car crash that claimed the life of a 35-year-old bicyclist and injured another.

Detective Angel Rodriguez of the agency identified the officer as Francky JN Louis. The bicyclist who was killed on June 28 was identified as Alain Nieves-Leon. The crash occurred shortly after 7 a.m. along Arthur Lamb Jr. Road.

"Rescue personnel from Miami-Dade County, the city of Miami and the village of Key Biscayne responded to the scene," Rodriguez said. "The cyclists were transported to JMH Ryder Trauma Center, where one was determined deceased."

Police said Nieves-Leon is an eight-year veteran of the agency. The case is being investigated by the Miami-Dade Police Department Traffic Homicide Unit.

"According to investigators, an on-duty MDPD officer was driving on Arthur Lamb Jr. Road and the access road to the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department facility, when the two cyclists were struck," according to Rodriguez.
