Seatbelt Crackdown Planned In Miami-Dade

Miami-Dade police said they will be targeting 10 problem intersections for seatbelt violations on Thursday.

MIAMI, FL — Miami-Dade police will be out in force again Thurdsay morning looking for seatbelt violations around the county. Miami-Dade police said they will be targeting 10 problem intersections. The enforcement initiative was being condcted by the department's Motorcycle Unit.

Detective Argemis “AC” Colome of the Miami-Dade Police Department said that the intersections will be selected based on crash and traffic-related fatality data.

Miami-Dade police also targeted 10 intersections on Tuesday during a similar operation with little more than a week to go before the first day of school for thousands of Miami-Dade children on Aug. 15.

The seatbelt enforcement operations are funded by a Florida Department of Transportation grant. Thursday's operation will run from 7 a.m. through 11 a.m.
