Miami-Dade Lifts No-Swim Advisory For Virginia Key, Biscayne Bay Area

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL — The no-swim advisory issued June 4 for Virginia Key, Biscayne Bay and surrounding areas has been lifted, the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department confirmed.

Swimming was prohibited earlier this month due to sewer overflow from heavy rains; however, based on sampling results from the Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources the water is now safe.

"Water quality samples comply with Environmental Protection Agency standards, and all signs will be removed," the county said in a news release.

A portion of the Miami River is still being sampled due and swimming isn't allowed at this time. The posted boundaries of the Miami River include Northwest 12 Avenue to US1.
