Miami-Dade Man Taken Into Custody Following Police Standoff

The man was taken into custody Monday afternoon following a four-hour standoff with police ​in southwest Miami-Dade.

MIAMI, FL — A man was taken into custody Monday afternoon following a four-hour standoff with police in southwest Miami-Dade. The man was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital South. The incident occurred in the 11800 block of SW 186th Street.

Detective Argemis Colome of the Miami-Dade Police Department said the man was taken into custody shortly before 4 p.m. He was not immediately identified.

"He had some sort of ... mental illness and he was barricaded," Colome told Patch.

The initial call reported that the man was barricaded with an unidentified weapon. It was not immediately clear if police recovered a weapon at the scene.

The call came in shortly before noon, according to Colome.
