Miami-Dade Residents Face Deadline To Apply For Rent Assistance
Miami-Dade residents who need help paying their rent because of the coronavirus have until 5 p.m. Friday to apply for assistance.
MIAMI, FL — Miami-Dade residents who need help paying their rent because of the economic downturn caused by the coronavirus have until 5 p.m. Friday, July 24 to apply for emergency rent assistance if they meet income eligibility requirements.
“This vital program will help residents throughout our county get through the unprecedented hardships resulting from the current health crisis,” Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez said.

The amount of rental assistance will depend on family size, bedroom size of the housing unit, amount of rent owed and current household income.
To participate, your current income must be less than 80 percent of the annual Area Median Income set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

For a single person, that's $51,200. A two-person household can earn $58,500. Three people can earn $65,800. Four people can earn $73,100. Five people can make $78,950. Six people can make $84,800. Seven people can make $90,650 and eight people can make $95,500.
People that participate must certify their household does not receive or has not received any other rental subsidy (example: Housing Choice Voucher Section 8, Family Unification Voucher, Veteran Affairs Supportive Housing, Mainstream Voucher, Project-based Section 8, Project-based Rental Assistance, Public Housing, HOME Tenant Based Rental Assistance, Continuum of Care rent subsidy, other government rental assistance programs related to COVID-19, etc.)
Residents will be notified by email if they qualify for assistance. It may take seven to 10 days to hear back from county officials. You can also read the Frequently Asked Questions in English, Spanish or Creole.
