MIAMI, FL — A 50-year-old Miami firefighter has been accused of confronting his former lover with a silver handgun and alternating between threats to her and threats to take his own life, according to court documents. Kent Damian Padmore faced a judge Thursday after being charged with aggravated assault with a firearm. The incident occurred earlier this month as the victim spoke on the phone with her husband in the 400 block of SW 2nd Avenue.

The incident occurred on May 8 shortly before 5 p.m. Police said the woman was confronted as she was getting into her car after leaving work.
"As she was sitting inside her vehicle with her door slightly open, she observed the defendant exit an olive green in color Nissan Pathfinder from the driver side holding a silver handgun in his right hand," court documents alleged. "The defendant then ran towards the victim holding the firearm in a hip shooting position with the gun pointing directly at her."
Court documents said that the woman immediately hung up with her husband as she pushed the gun away from her direction.
"The defendant then pushed her hand back subsequently pointing the firearm in her direction once again," court documents said. "A brief struggle ensued between both, and the victim was telling the defendant to calm down. The victim stated that the defendant was very angry and stated that he would hurt himself."
Court documents said the woman feared Padmore was going to kill her.
"The defendant stated to the victim: 'Don't do anything crazy. The safety is off.'"
At one point, the victim tried to reassure Padmore that she still loved him, according to the court documents. But the victim told police she secretly texted her husband to get help.
"She was able to text her husband and instructed him via text message to call the police," court documents said. "The victim wrote: 'He's here in my car and he has a gun.'"
Police said the victim ran toward Miami officers when they arrived. The gun was found in the woman's glove compartment while Padmore was later located and arrested.
Padmore declined to speak to investigators, according to the court documents.
