Miami Firefighter Needs Plasma Donation In Coronavirus Battle
Miami-area firefighters have issued a plea to help a fellow firefighter who is battling the coronavirus.
AVENTURA, FL — A veteran Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officer was fighting for his life Wednesday at Aventura Medical Center and fellow firefighters issued an appeal for coronavirus survivors with Type O-positive blood to donate their convalescent plasma.
Lt. Germarlon Broadnax had been in the hospital suffering from persistent pneumonia due to COVID-19 but the firefighter took a turn for the worse Tuesday. He had to be intubated, according to the agency.
"His family, his fellow firefighters and friends are all hoping for the best, however his condition has not improved, and he does need this plasma donation to help him gain the strength he needs to recover," the agency's Erika Benitez said.

Plasma donations will be accepted from anywhere in the country. People who have recovered from the coronavirus can donate their plasma every 28 days.
"Just like he is fighting for his life in the hospital, today so many other families are also struggling as they watch their loved ones fight for their lives too, so it is so important that if you can make this type of plasma donation to please come forward and step up and make this donation," Benitez added. "It definitely can help save a life."
