Miami Offers Expedited Walk-Through Permits

MIAMI, FL — It just got easier to get a permit in the city of Miami. City officials announced that the Miami Building Department has added walk-through permits to its expedited permit process. Under the program, city workers process certain permit applications in 30 days or less.

"Since April 9, more than 3,500 permits have been processed with an average 1.5 day processing time using the expedited permit process," city officials said in announcing the change on Monday.

To qualify for the expedited process, applicants must meet the following conditions:

Commercial

• Total construction cost that is less than $150,000
• Maximum of 10 plan sheets per set.

Residential

• Total square feet that is less than 500
• Total cost that is less than $75,000
• Maximum of 10 sheets per set

In June, city officials launched a permit concierge service with at-home building permit services for seniors, disabled persons and veterans. To request this service, call 305-416-2000 or send an email to concierge@miamigov.com.

City officials plan to offer electronic plan review by the end of the year, which will give applicants the ability to complete the permit process online.
