Miami School Glitch Fixed; Classes Start Tuesday

MIAMI, FL — Miami school officials believe they have found a solution to Monday's technical glitch that prevented a number of students from logging into their online classes to start the new school year.

"M-DCPS has been working tirelessly throughout the day, in collaboration with our network solutions company Cisco Systems, to identify the problem and offer a solution," Miami-Dade County Public School officials confirmed late Monday night. "

Classes resumed Monday for the nation's fourth largest school district following an extended summer break only to end in frustration for thousands of children and their parents.

Miami-Dade Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho called the technical glitch one of his "greatest disappointments" as superintendent.

"We are relying on Cisco engineers to solve a Cisco software connectivity switch problem," Carvalho told reporters.

District officials announced they had a solution following several meetings with high-level executives from the company that should prevent a repeat of Monday's frustration.

"The district has been provided assurances that the connectivity problems experienced by students and teachers have been identified and resolved," officials said.

There is also a backup solution in case the fix doesn't work.

"In an abundance of caution, we have created a redundant access solution that should allow students and teachers to access the K-12 platform on Tuesday," school officials said. "Parents, students and teachers are being provided with specific login instructions. We ask for continued patience during this process."

Miami-Dade County Public Schools includes 392 schools, 345,000 students and more than 40,000 employees.

A number of parents and students took to social media on Monday to share their frustration over the technical glitch, some in language inappropriate for publication.
