  1. The Trayvon Martin Foundation is hosting the 11th annual rememberance in Miami this weekend on what would have been his 28th birthday. Martin was a student at Dr. Michael Krop High School in Miami before he was shot and killed while visiting his father in Sanford in 2012. The foundation was founded by Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin in March 2012. (WPLG Local 10)
  2. City of Miramar has passed a resolution denouncing the decision by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to reject the College Board's AP African American studies course. Miramar Mayor Wayne Messam said the policies of DeSantis, "always seems to attack Black people and people of color." The move by Gov. DeSantis made national headlines and led to changes at the College Board on curriculum. (WSVN)
  3. An 85-year-old South Florida man is accused of setting a woman's car on fire after getting rejected. Police said the suspect was captured on video burning the vehicle. The suspect has been arrested by police and charged with arson. (CBS Miami)
  4. Banesco USA is opening new headquarters in Doral after a $250 million dollar equity investment from the U.S. Department of Treasury's Emergency Capital Investment Program (ECIP), according to Miami Today. The company plans to hire 140 people over three years in South Florida. The new facility plans to open on Feb. 9. (Miami Today)
  5. Changes are being proposed to Florida condominium reform legislation by a board of stakeholders after the tragic Surfside condo collapse claimed nearly 100 lives in South Florida. The board wants the law to consider the difference between coastal and inland buildings when it comes to safety. South Florida is being more proactive on the issue since the incident.
