TALLAHASSEE, FL — The number of deaths from the coronavirus in Florida topped 3,000 Wednesday as state health officials reported 2,610 more cases of the virus following a record-setting 2,783 spike in cases a day earlier.
The state reported 82,719 coronavirus cases on Wednesday, up from 80,109 over the previous 24-hour period. Health officials also reported 1,758 new cases on Monday and more than 2,000 new cases on both Saturday and Sunday following a string of 1,000-plus case days.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has blamed the increase largely on increased testing of people who are asymptomatic. He told reporters Tuesday he had no plans to roll back the state's reopening.
