Patrick Dwyer, NewEdge Wealth | Miami Cancer Philanthropy
Patrick Dwyer of NewEdge Wealth on recent developments in Miami regarding cancer philanthropy.

Since the beginning of this year, Miami has seen some significant progress in the development of its cancer research and treatment centers. Thanks to generous philanthropic support, these achievements have been made possible and residents who need it can benefit from the new additions.
Mount Sinai Medical Center
A new cancer center is slated to open by 2025 at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach. The 200,000-square-foot building will be equipped with advanced technologies and devices in an effort to supply the best care possible. The establishment of the cutting-edge facility is possible due to a significant donation. Officials from the Mount Sinai Medical Center are proud to report that the center will be focused on prioritizing patients’ needs and comfort. Plans include offering appointments in a timely manner, social support groups, spa therapy, virtual support, and remote monitoring.

SebastianStrong in Partnership with the DCC
SebastianStrong has partnered with the Dolphins Challenge Cancer (DCC), a Miami Dolphins Foundation initiative. The goal of the four-year partnership is to raise funds in support of the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. The fundraising target is $125,000 per year, aiming to reach $1 million over the next four years, with a commitment to double every dollar raised. The donations will assist efforts in finding a cure for childhood cancer and developing less toxic treatment plans.

SebastianStrong was founded in 2017 in memory of Sebastian Oritz, who passed away as a teen from rhabdomyosarcoma. The mission of the organization, established by Sebastian’s parents, is to raise awareness of childhood cancer and enable further treatments and cures. The DCC is the largest annual fundraising event in the NFL, and has successfully raised over $45.5 million through cycling competitions and a 5K walkathon.

Baptist Health Foundation
The Baptist Health Foundation has received a $5 million grant to facilitate programming at Baptist Health’s Miami Cancer Institute. Of the grant, $3 million will be dedicated to running a breast cancer trial for underserved women in South Florida with early-stage breast cancer. Qualifying women will receive advanced radiation therapy, and the grant will enable further research on breast cancer. The remaining $2 million will help launch the Miami Cancer Institute’s first endowed chair and support the work of Dr. Manmeet Ahluwalia, advancing clinical trials for treating brain tumors and metasteses.
