Firefighters also tried to rescue the homeowner's cat but were unable to save the animal.

MIAMI, FL — A pet dog was rescued Saturday when a smoky fire broke out in a southwest Miami-Dade County home. Firefighters also tried to rescue the homeowner's cat but were unable to save the animal. Firefighters said the homeowner made it outside on her own.
"While one unit fought the fire that was in the garage, another went into the smoke-filled house to search for the animals," explained a spokesperson for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. "The family dog was quickly found and was treated by the paramedics for smoke inhalation."
The cat could not be saved.
