FL Airline Abruptly Shuts Down, Canceling Flights And Stranding Passengers
A regional airline abruptly shut down operations and canceled flights across FL, the Caribbean and the Bahamas after a bankruptcy sale.
HOLLYWOOD, FL — Regional airline Silver Airways abruptly shut down operations and canceled flights on Wednesday, leaving some travelers stranded at airports in Florida, the Bahamas and the Caribbean.
“Please do not go to the airport,” the Hollywood-based company wrote in a statement on its website.
During a bankruptcy restructuring, Silver sold its assets to an airline holding company, “who unfortunately has determined to not continue Silver’s flight operations” serving five cities in the Sunshine State and 11 island destinations, according to the statement.

Silver served airports in Tampa, Orlando, Pensacola, Fort Lauderdale and Key West, as well as locations in the Caribbean and the Bahamas.
Travelers should seek flight refunds through their credit card companies or travel agencies, Silver said.

The airline filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in December, Fox 13 reported.

In an email to employees, Silver’s CEO said that most jobs with the company will be eliminated as the sale is finalized.
The airline previously reduced its workforce from 608 to 348 pilots, flight attendants and ground workers and cut its fleet down to eight ATR turboprop planes.
Seaborne Airliness, a seaplane carrier that is affiliated with Silver and flies between St. Croix and St. Thomas, will continue operating, the New York Daily News said.
Silver acquired Seaborne, based in San Juan Puerto Rico, in 2018, the company’s website said.
