“Porch Passages: Creole Collage” exhibit opens Nov. 29, showcasing work from Students and Local Artists
Fab Lab Miami students took part in summer art and architecture workshops to assist in creating the exhibition

"Porch Passages: Creole Collage," an innovative youth arts program launched this summer to celebrate Miami’s porch architecture as a living archive of Black and Caribbean design, will culminate in a community-built architectural installation and exhibition at the Marshall Davis African Heritage Cultural Arts Center on Saturday, November 29, 2025.
Led by Miami-based visual artist Cornelius Tulloch and interdisciplinary poet and artist Arsimmer McCoy, the project brought together two complementary summer workshop series, hosted at the AHCAC and Fab Lab Miami in Liberty City.
At AHCAC, students explored Miami’s historic porch ornamentation through breeze blocks and ironwork, reading facades as historical texts, and developing collage skills. At the same time, Fab Lab Miami interns translated their own collage-based designs into digital files, gaining hands-on experience with CNC and laser-cutting fabrication.

“This is more than a workshop and exhibit; it’s an archive of lived experience, told through the lens of our youth,” said Tulloch. “By combining poetic storytelling with architectural craft, we’re honoring our communities and shaping the future of Miami.”
Each student’s work contributed to a fabricated breeze-block façade, designed and assembled by the TULL team for display at MDAHCC. The exhibition combines poetry and collage with a large-scale architectural panel, encouraging students to return to their neighborhoods with a deeper understanding of their roles in the city’s ongoing development.

Students learned to translate art into digital form by creating their own designs. They used creative storytelling and poetic and visual language to write about their personal experiences. The exhibit runs through January 17, 2026.
