🌱 Port Royale Miami Beach Residents Return + Marlins Promote O'Connor

• ⚾ The Miami Marlins have promoted Caroline O'Conner to president of business operations.
• 🚨 Miami-native D'Sean Perry was among the victims in a mass shooting at University of Virginia on Sunday.
• 🍎 University of Miami (UM) is now offering a Teacher Accelerator Program for students to help aid the teacher shortages across South Florida.

Here are the top stories in Miami today:

1. The Miami Marlins have promoted Caroline O'Connor to president of business operations. The Marlins are the first U.S. major sports franchise to have two women serving simultaneously as its president and general manager. (Miami Patch)

2. Miami Beach residents at Port Royale condominium at 6969 Collins Ave. have been allowed to return home after the building was previously marked unsafe on Oct. 27. The building engineer and city agreed the building is safe to return to prior the building re-opening, after a temporary installation of shoring was completed. (NBC Miami)

3. Miami-native D'Sean Perry was among the victims in a shooting at University of Virginia on Sunday. Perry previously played as a linebacker and defensive end at Gulliver Prep in Pinecrest and was named the South Florida Conference's 2018 Defense Player of the Year, according to his biography. 4. Tri-Rail plans to begin running practice commuter trains to Brightline's MiamiCentral station in early 2023. Brightline was paid by The SFRTA, Miami-Dade County, and City of Miami $70 million to build a train depot for Tri-Rail at the MiamiCentral station. (Subscription:South Florida Business Journal)

5. University of Miami (UM) has begun offering a Teacher Accelerator Program to students that guarantees student a job with Miami-Dade Public Schools upon completion, amid a shortage of teacher's across the state and in South Florida. The program is a partnership with Achieve Miami and Teach for America. (The Capitolist)

• Previously fired Miami police chief Art Acevedo is now in the running for a new job in Aurora, Colorado as police chief. Acevado claimed in the past he was fired by Miami commissioners for investigating alleged wrongdoing in the city. (WPLG Local 10)
