U.S. Postal Inspector Bryan Masmela in Miami said the carrier was not injured in the attack. He praised the quick work of Miami-Dade police in making an arrest in the case.
“The safety of our employees has always been our main priority, and we are very appreciative of MDPD’s quick response and apprehension of this individual," he said. "We will be following this matter closely to determine what actions need to be taken to ensure that this does not occur again.”
Court documents said Louis demanded that the carrier hand over property.
"[She] began screaming for Mr. Louis to get off of her and out of the vehicle," court documents said. "[She] states that she attempted to push Mr. Louis off of her, using all of her strength at least four of more times."
Court documents said the carrier was finally able to push Louis out of the vehicle and managed to close the door.
"Mr. Louis jumped onto the front of the vehicle and grabbed hold of the vehicle's driver's-side windshield wiper and then jumped off the vehicle," the documents said. "Mr. Louis fled the scene on foot down 27th Avenue. After a few minutes, Mr. Louis returned to the scene and was lurking around the building across the street."
Court documents said Louis began slamming his head into the rear safety shield in the back of the police vehicle, which caused cuts to his forehead.
