Preschoolers Painted In Blackface At Miami Daycare Center

Parents are outraged after a teacher at a Miami daycare center painted children in blackface to celebrate Black History Month, reports said.

MIAMI, FL — A South Florida daycare center has upset parents after painting preschoolers in blackface, according to multiple reports.

To the outrage of parents, a teacher at Studio Kids’ Little River painted the children Black to celebrate Black History Month, according to WSVN.

Among photos taken at the daycare that were shared among parents were images of children dressed to showcase different professions, including a construction worker and a police officer, while painted brown, reports said.

You should know better as an educator,” one parent, Courtney Politis, who is Black and removed her children from the school after the incident, told the Miami Herald. “What else are you teaching our children?”

Another parent, who asked to stay anonymous, told the news outlet that she was “shocked and somewhat destabilized” by the “inappropriate” incident.

The educator, who is Argentinian, apologized to Politis after the incident. The teacher told the mother that blackface is part of her country’s cultural tradition, according to NBC Miami.

The daycare’s director also apologized to parents, according to reports, messaging them, “We have not intended to offend anyone, and we are very sorry about any inconvenience. The parents that know us, know that we have never had a bad intention in our institution.”
