Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing In Florida Everglades

HOLLYWOOD, FL — First responders in two airboats circled an overturned Cessna aircraft Thursday afternoon in a swampy area of the Florida Evergladers after the aircraft apparently made an emergency landing.

News helicopter video showed two men sitting on top of the plane as they awaited the arrival of first responders. The men could be seen embracing atop the aircraft.

A Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson told Patch the single-engine Cessna 172 landed about 10 miles west of Hollywood, Florida at 12:45 p.m.

"Local officials will release the names and conditions of both people aboard the aircraft," the spokesperson said. "The FAA is investigating, and the National Transportation Safety Board has been notified about the event."

The Broward Sheriff's Office said the plane was located near mile marker 35 on the south side of Alligator Alley.

The sheriff's office said the two people aboard the aircraft suffered minor injuries.
