- Mexican actor Pablo Lyle has been sentenced by a Miami-Dade judge to five years in prison for manslaughter. The maximum sentence for manslaughter is 15 years and the minimum is nine. During sentencing, Lyle said he did not intend to kill the victim, but was protecting his family. He will also serve 8 years of probation. (WPLG Local 10)
- Miami Police Department is facing scrutiny from the public over a decision to wrap a police cruiser for Black History Month. "We want justice, not a wrapped police vehicle," said Daniella Pierre, the president of the Miami NAACP to NBC Miami. "We want the end to qualified immunity, we want actionable policies that save the lives of people all across this country, that's what we want." (NBC Miami)
- Solovision Optical was raided on Friday by Florida authorities over allegedly selling fake glasses. One person was arrested during the raid. The incident happened near Northwest 167th Street and 57th Avenue. (WSVN)
- University of Miami Miller School of Medicine has established the Department of Informatics and Health Data Science. The department will seek to "impact how data is applied to education, research, clinical care, private ventures, and service and outreach." The interim chair is Azizi Seixas, Ph.D. (South Florida Hospital News)
- A Ferrari Roma fell down a car elevator shaft at a high-end dealership in Palm Beach County this week after an elevator malfunctioned. No injuries were reported in the incident. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue shared the news on its Facebook page. (Miami Patch)
