South Beach Shooting Leaves 1 Person Wounded

MIAMI BEACH, FL — One person was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center late Friday afternoon after suffering an apparent gunshot wound in South Beach, according to Miami Beach police.

"Police on scene have one person detained," Miami Beach police said on social media.

Miami Beach police said the incident occurred at 2 Street and Meridian Avenue but they did not immediately release a motive for the shooting.

Police asked motorists to avoid the area around 2 Street and Meridian Avenue.

WPLG-TV reported the gunshot was possibly fired by a Miami Beach resident during an apparent break-in attempt.

"Everybody that I've spoken to, they heard one shot and it must have been a pretty good shot," Florida State Rep. Michael Grieco told the TV news crew.
