The National Weather Service on Monday warned of a flooding rain threat in South Florida through midweek.

MIAMI, FL — The National Weather Service on Monday warned of a flooding rain threat in South Florida through midweek. Weather officials urged residents and visitors to closely monitor weather conditions in South Florida.

"There is a 40 percent chance of tropical development in the eastern Gulf," according to the National Weather Service in Miami. "Regardless of development, heavy rainfall will be a threat across South Florida this week."

Meteorologist Chuck Caracozza with the National Weather Service in Miami told Patch that South Florida can expect periods of heavy rainfall into at least midweek but that no special precautions are needed at this time.

"It's heavy rain," he said. "If you are out driving you need to be careful, slow down and don't drive through any flooded roadways."
