MIAMI, FL — A new study by personal finance website WalletHub ranked America's safest cities, including 11 cities in Florida.

The rankings released Monday were based on 41 indicators ranging from the number of mass shootings in each city to the number of assaults, thefts and even unemployment rates and road quality.

"Besides the types of hazards that can cause bodily injury or other physical harm, taking out an unaffordable second mortgage, forgoing health insurance or even visiting unsecured websites are also ways people run into danger," WalletHub editors penned. "At the top of the list of worries is the availability of affordable healthcare, which 80 percent of Americans worry about either a 'great deal' or a 'fair amount.'"

Miami ranked 131st while Orlando ranked 164th and St. Petersburg ranked 168th. Fort Lauderdale came in second to last at 181st on the list ahead of only St. Louis, Missouri.

"No one can avoid all danger, however, and we take on a certain level of risk based on where we choose to live," according to WalletHub. "Some cities are simply better at protecting their residents from harm."

Topping the list of the safest cities were Columbia, Maryland which finished first followed by Yonkers, New York and Plano, Texas.

The least safest cities were St. Louis, Fort Lauderdale and San Bernardino, California.
