A suspicious white powder was found in a package on Wednesday afternoon in downtown Miami.

MIAMI, FL — A suspicious white powder was found in a package on Wednesday afternoon in downtown Miami. The incident led to an evacuation and traffic headaches for motorists, according to Miami police.

"NE 1 Avenue is closed from E. Flagler Street to NE 1 Street due to #14 NE 1 Ave being evacuated," Miami police said on Wednesday afternoon at the start of the evening rush hour.

"The building is being evacuated after a suspicious package that contained a white powder was delivered," police added.

Officer Michael Vega of the Miami Police Department told Patch that the package was sent to an attorney in the building but he did not have additional information.

Motorists were being asked to avoid the area.
