Watch: Funeral Held For Miami Police Officer Aubrey Johnson

Miami-Dade's medical examiner said the officer died of pulmonary thromboembolism.

MIAMI, FL — A funeral was held Wednesday for Aubrey Johnson, the Miami police officer who died last week.

In a Facebook post commemorating Johnson's service, Miami police said the officer served on the department from 2015 to 2020.

According to CBS Miami, Johnson is a second-generation Miami officer, his father a Senior Executive Assistant to the Chief of Police and his mother a retired police dispatcher.

He died last week from pulmonary thromboembolism that followed a leg injury Aubrey sustained when chasing a suspect on Sept. 17, CBS Miami reports.

His funeral was held Wednesday at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Miami Gardens. It's set to be followed by a burial at Caballero Rivero Dade North in Opa-Locka.
