WEST KENDALL, FL — President Donald Trump said the Iranian general targeted in an airstrike was planning a "very major attack and we got him."
Speaking to an audience of evangelicals at the El Rey Jesús mega church near Miami on Friday afternoon, the president defended the U.S. air strike that killed Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani.
"Qassem Soleimani has been killed and his bloody rampage is now forever gone," Trump told the audience to cheers.

"He was plotting attacks against Americans but now we’ve assured that his atrocities have been stopped for good," Trump said.
Despite the air strike, the president said his administration remains "firmly committed" to establishing peace and harmony among the nations of the world.

"We do not seek war. We do not seek nation building," Trump said. "We do not seek regime change, but as president I will never hesitate to defend the safety of the American people, you. So let this be a warning to terrorists: If you value your own life you will not threaten the lives of our citizens.”
Trump said Americans enjoy many blessings but “perhaps the greatest among them is the blessing of being protected by the most exceptional and virtuous military on the face of God’s earth.”
