WATCH: Miami-Dade Cops Rescue 19-Year-Old From Highway Overpass
Miami-Dade police officers are being called heroes for rescuing a 19-year-old man from a highway overpass over the weekend.

KENDALL, FL — Miami-Dade police officers are being called heroes for rescuing a 19-year-old man from a highway overpass over the weekend.
“I’m extremely proud, although not surprised of these officers’ heroic acts to save a human life," Miami-Dade Police Director Alfredo "Freddy" Ramirez III said on Monday.
Miami-Dade police released body-worn video of the incident that shows the officers working together to save the man whom they feared was about to jump.

The incident happened shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday along the Palmetto Expressway and SW 40 Street. Police video shows the harrowing scene high about the highway.
"A quick-thinking officer lunged towards the man and was able to grab a hold of him, and with the assistance of additional units, were able to pull the man to safety," Miami-Dade police said.

The man was taken to an area hospital for a mental health evaluation and medical treatment, according to the agency.
Sgt. Cheryl Diaz of the Miami-Dade Police Department told reporters on Monday that the incident touched her personally.
"Somebody very close to me unfortunately killed themself," she said. "All of us converged on the area with the same hope — the desire to save his life."
