1 Dead, 1 Injured After Car Crashes Into Building

The injured person is now in stable condition.

The driver of a car that crashed into a building near New Port Richey on Tuesday died at the scene of the collision, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A man living in the building, which is located at 8551 Pilgrim Court, was inside his home at the time of the crash and was struck by the car and debris, according to troopers.

The man, Donald Evans, 70, was in Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in critical condition Tuesday night, but he was in stable condition Wednesday morning, according to troopers.

The 66-year-old woman behind the wheel of the 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis suffered a medical emergency as she drove south on Riverwood toward Bristolwood around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to troopers.

She lost control of the car and failed to negotiate a left curve, according to troopers. The car went off the road and hit the building.

The name of the driver was not released Wednesday because troopers had not reached out-of-state next of kin.
