5 Things You Should Know Today, Dec. 12

Start the week off right.

1.   There's a 30 percent chance of rain today, and it will be mostly cloudy, with temperatures reaching a high near 76.

2.     The New Port Richey City Council meets Tuesday night at 6 p.m. to get updated on several major issues at a work session.

 City Council members cannot vote at a work session, but they can share opinions.  The agenda for Tuesday (but not a vote) includes:

  • The proposal to provide streetscaping for the Main Street Landing property. As much as $200,000 in Penny for Pasco funds could be used.
  • A proposal that city staff had hoped would spur the redevelopment of the Hacienda Hotel.
  • Community Hospital is planning on moving most of its services to a new facility in Trinity. City staff is proposing that New Port Richey partner with the administrators of Community Hospital to create a plan for redevelopment of the vacant part of the property and the surrounding area when the services are moved out. The plan is estimated to cost $55,000.
  •  A proposed ordinance amendment to allow patrons to take a beer bought at a local bar into a special event heid in a public section of the city.
