5 Things You Should Know Today, Jan. 10

We've got traffic info you should know about today.

1.     After patchy morning fog, it is expected to be mostly sunny today. Temperatures could reach a high near 76.

2.     There will be single lane closures during the day on Gulf Drive from James Street to Magnolia Way in New Port Richey starting today due to installation of new sewer mains along Gulf. Expect to see closures for the next two weeks or so.

3. Kyrja, a local Pagan and author of children’s book “Rupert's Tales - The Wheel of the Year: Beltane, Litha, Lammas and Mabo,” was featured in an interview on the Pagan Writers Community website, which is an “online enclave for cre­ative spir­its of alter­na­tive faiths.” Check it out to learn more about Kyrja and her works. Kyrja and the “Friends of Rupert have adopted a 2.3 mile stretch of Rowan Road between Massachusetts Avenue and Trouble Creek Road.  You can join their next cleanup February 28, 2012.

 4.   The New Port Richey City Council will be discussing a couple redevelopment and strategic planning issues at a workshop tonight at 6 p.m. at City Hall. One issue on the agenda is a proposed redevelopment plan. Another is a proposed agreement for the city’s debt-plagued Community Redevelopment fund to pay back money to the city general fund, which is expected to begin subsidizing the redevelopment fund in fiscal year 2013. The council will also discuss a draft strategic plan crafted by the city management to cater to the goals and visions council members said they would like the city to pursue.
