77-Year-Old Pedestrian Dies After Crash on U.S. 19 in Holiday

Florida Highway Patrol has not released the man's name.

An 77-year-old pedestrian was struck by a car and killed as he crossed U.S. 19 in Holiday Wednesday morning, according to Florida Highway Patrol troopers.

Jaimee Torres, 20, of Largo, was driving a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer sedan north in the inside lane of U.S. 19 near Bartelt Road at around 9:40 a.m. when the pedestrian began crossing west across the northbound lanes from the east curb, according to a FHP report.  

He was not using a crosswalk. He walked in front of the Mitsubishi, was struck by its front rght end and died from his injuries at the scene. Torres was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The FHP is not releasing the pedestrian's name until troopers notify the next of kin. The investigation is ongoing.
