79-Year-Old Bicyclist Killed While Riding On Suncoast Trail

NEW PORT RICHEY, FL — A 79-year-old New Port Richey woman has died after being struck by a van while her bike on the Suncoast Trail Tuesday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at 9:25 a.m., a van driven by a 42-year-old Spring Hill man was heading south on the Suncoast Parkway and exited onto Ridge Road, merging to make a right onto westbound Ridge Road.

Troopers said the bicyclist was riding south on the Suncoast Trail and failed to stop at the stop sign on the trail at Ridge Road. She entered the path of the van, which struck the bicycle.

The woman was taken to the hospital where she died.
