Bicyclist Dies After Crashing Into Minivan In Pasco County: FHP

An 83-year-old Zephyrhills man ​died Sunday night when his electric bicycle crashed into a minivan, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

PASCO COUNTY, FL — An 83-year-old Zephyrhills man died Sunday night when his electric bicycle crashed into a minivan, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The victim's name has not yet been released.

The bicycle was traveling northbound on the Withlacoochee State Trial and failed to stop at the intersection with Trilby Road, the state patrol said in a news release. The bike collided with the front of a Honda Odyssey, driven by a 20-year-old Dade City woman, who was eastbound on Trilby Road.

Authorities said the electric bike's rider failed to stop for a posted stop sign on the bike trail and struck the van.

The bicyclist was taken to an area hospital, where he died from injuries suffered during the crash.
