Disturbing Florida Hit-And-Run Caught On Video

The Florida Highway Patrol is asking for help identifying a Holiday hit-and-run driver who left a swath of damage in his wake.

HOLIDAY, FL — The Florida Highway Patrol is asking for help identifying a motorist who took a turn too fast in the Holiday area on Monday afternoon, sending his SUV careening. After hitting several mailboxes, a parked vehicle, slamming into a boy on a bike and causing injuries to a second bicyclist, the man took off, troopers say.

The incident, which was captured on a neighborhood surveillance camera, unfolded around 3:55 p.m. May 15. The SUV’s driver was heading southbound on Windham Drive at that time, approaching Moog Road. The man failed to stop for the sign, turned left onto Moog Road and then promptly lost control of his vehicle, a highway patrol report said.

The SUV then ran into a yard in the 3900 block of Moog Road, hit a mailbox, and then struck a parked Chevrolet Pickup. The force of the impact was so strong, the pickup rotated and then struck the home, the patrol’s report said.

The collision with the pickup didn’t stop the SUV’s driver from continuing on Moog Road, the patrol noted. The motorist kept on going and struck a 14-year-old boy on a bicycle, who was riding southbound on a sidewalk. The SUV kept on going, the patrol said, and hit another mailbox, which sent debris flying at a 12-year-old boy on a bicycle.

After causing multiple collisions, troopers say the motorist took off.

Both boys suffered minor injuries, the patrol reported. The 14-year-old, who was thrown from his bike by the SUV, was taken to a local hospital to be checked out, the report noted.

Troopers are now asking for help identifying the man behind the wheel of the SUV. The vehicle he was driving is described as a Ford Expedition with Florida tag number GYCT99 on it. Troopers say the man is believed to be between 20 and 30 years of age. He has light brown or blonde hair.

Anyone who knows the man or has further information about the crash is asked to call FHP at 813-631-4020.
