Driver Charged With DUI Manslaughter After Crashing Into Tree, Passenger's Death: FL Troopers
The driver, a Wesley Chapel man, was more than three times the legal limit when he was arrested for DUI manslaughter, FL troopers said.
WESLEY CHAPEL, FL — A Wesley Chapel man accused of driving under the influence was more than three times the legal limit when he lost control of his car on Monday night, hit a tree, and left the crash site with his passenger, who later died from her injuries, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.
The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. as 37-year-old Robert Freeman was driving south on Bay Pines Drive, north of Lindenhurst Drive.
He lost control of his car and drove across the northbound lane before hitting a tree in the outside shoulder, FHP said.

A 38-year-old Wesley Chapel woman in the car with him was seriously injured in the crash.
Freeman left the scene and drove to his home on Walker Drive, where troopers found him and his injured passenger, FHP said.

The woman was brought to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Freeman, who was uninjured, was found to be impaired and a breath sample registered at .269, FHP said.
He was booked into Pasco County Jail and charged with DUI manslaughter and leaving the scene of a crash involving a death.
