Unrestrained Boy, 4, Dies After Being Thrown From Truck In FL Rollover Crash, Troopers Say

A 4-year-old boy was killed and five others were injured when a driver lost control of his truck, which overturned, FL Highway Patrol said.

HERNANDO COUNTY, FL — A 4-year-old Lecanto boy is dead after being thrown from a truck in an early morning rollover crash in Hernando County on Nov. 16, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

The child was unrestrained at the time of the crash which happened on State Road 589, north of State Road 50, just before 4 a.m.

The truck, a Toyota Tacoma driven by a 42-year-old Lecanto man, was heading north on S.R. 589 when he lost control and entered the grassy shoulder.

He overcorrected back across the highway, entered the median and the truck overturned several times, troopers said.

The boy was thrown from the truck as it overturned. He was brought to an area hospital with serious injuries and died days later on Nov. 19, FHP said.

The driver and three other passengers — a 28-year-old Homossassa man, a 27-year-old Homosassa man and a 5-year-old Lecanto boy — suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Another passenger, a 35-year-old Homosassa man, was seriously injured.
