Five Things You Should Know Today, August 2

Here's what you need to know to get involved with your community.

1.     It could feel as hot as 99 degrees today thanks to the heat index, although the thermostat isn’t expected to rise above 90. What we can expect is scattered showers and thunderstorms after 11 a.m. Otherwise, it’ll be partly sunny.

2.     The New Port Richey City Council meets tomorrow at 7 p.m. at City Hall.  An update on from the project’s developer and discussion of a marketing study for the are on the agenda.

3.     The New Port Richey Recreation and Aquatic Center is hosting a public safety event todauy. Watch kids play basketball against police, get free photo ID cards, fingerprint kits and handgun locks. The event begins at 5:30 p.m.
