Five Things You Should Know Today, August 4

We're almost at the end of the week, and there's still oh so much to know.

1.    Tropical Storm Emily probably won’t make landfall in Florida, but we still might see rain in Pasco or thunderstorms after noon. Otherwise, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 91.

2.    Want to support the West Pasco Habitat for Humanity projects? Stop by its headquarters at 4131 Madison Street to participate in a raffle and e. This evening's movie is "Alegria." Festivities begin at 7 p.m.

3.     We’re looking for photos that showcase West Pasco‘s natural beauty. If you have a recent shot that shows our wild nature, send them to Alex.Tiegen@patch.com and see them featured on the site.

4.    Here’s a bright idea: Visit one of Progress Energy’s social media channels, and you’ll have a chance to receive a set of eight CFL bulbs. Five winners on each page will be selected between August 1 and August 10. Find the channels on Facebook (www.facebook.com/ProgressEnergyFlorida) or Twitter (@progressenergy.) Visit their website for more info at www.progress-energy.com/cflgiveaway.

5.   Our next addresses same-sex marriage in New York and how it might affect other states. Should it be legalized in Florida? Check out our columnist’s thoughts on the subject Monday.
