Highway Patrol Identifies Bicyclist Killed in Crash

Deceased is Gabriel Eusebio, 40, of New Port Richey.

Gabriel Eusebio has been identified by the Florida Highway Patrol as the New Port Richey man who died after a car struck the bicycle he was riding Saturday morning.

Jared Andrew Dey, of Port Richey, rear-ended Eusebio on Moon Lake Road south of Chipley Street at about 2:10 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Eusebio, 40, died at the scene.

Dey, 21, was in a 2011 Chevy HHR heading south on Moon Lake Road. Eusebio was riding a Next bicycle  in the same direction on the  same road.

Eusebio, who was not wearing a helmet, was on the inside portion of the southbound lane. Dey did not see him and hit the rear of the bicycle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The bike flipped and sent the rider onto the windshield of the HHR and then onto the roadway.

Sgt. Steve Gaskins, spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol, said the bicycle did not have any lights on it.

Alcohol was not a factor for Dey, according to investigators. Investigators are waiting on tests to come back to see if Eusebio may have been drinking.
