Holiday Bicyclist Seriously Injured in Hit-And-Run Crash

Breaking: The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for a motorist who struck a Holiday man Wednesday afternoon.

HOLIDAY, FL — The Florida Highway Patrol is asking for help identifying a motorist troopers say hit a bicyclist from Holiday Wednesday afternoon and kept on going.

According to the patrol, the crash occurred just before 2 p.m. Sept. 28 along Alternate U.S. 19, north of Flora Avenue. Troopers say a SUV was heading south on Alt. 19 as a bicycle ridden by Elijah R. Daggy, 37, was heading south in a marked bicycle lane.

Troopers say the SUV, for unknown reasons, traveled into the bike lane and struck Daggy. After the collision, troopers say the SUV’s driver kept going southbound.

Daggy suffered serious injuries and was taken to Bayonet Point Hospital for treatment.

As of Wednesday evening, troopers said the only description they had of the vehicle is that it was a white or light-colored SUV. Anyone with information in the case is asked to call the patrol at 813-631-4020. Tips may also be submitted to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-873-TIPS.
