Holiday Driver Crashes Truck into U.S. 19 Building

Driver emerged from early morning crash with minor injuries, charge

A Holiday resident who was behind the wheel of a Mitsubishi pickup truck that crashed into a building at 1004 U.S. 19 in Holiday has been charged with careless driving.

The driver, William Edward Sorg, 47, left the early Wednesday morning crash with minor injuries and was not taken to the hospital, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.  The truck did an estimated $10,000 in damage to the building, which was unoccupied at the time of the crash.

Sorg was driving east on Louis Avenue in his 2006 Mitsubishi pickup at 2:50 a.m. on March 23 when he stopped at a stop sign at U.S. 19, the report states.  Sorg drove across the southbound lanes of U.S. 19 and into the median in an attempt to turn left and go north.

The truck hit a traffic barrel placed in the median for a road construction project. Sorg then drove east across the northbound lanes, and his truck hit the side of a building, coming to rest facing east inside of it.

The crash did $6,000 in damage to the truck. The Highway Patrol does not suspect the incident to be related to alcohol.
