Hudson Man Riding on Minivan’s Bumper Dies

HUDSON, FL — A 22-year-old Hudson man riding on the outside of a minivan was killed Monday evening after he fell off the moving vehicle.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Robert Catterson, 22, was driving a Kia minivan north on Old Dixie Highway, approaching the intersection with Mako Drive, around 5:25 p.m. Oct. 3. At that time, John Belette was standing on the van’s rear bumper, holding onto the back of the van.

When Catterson turned left onto Mako Drive, a highway patrol report said Belette was thrown off the van.

Belette was taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point, but later died from his injuries.

Charges are pending the outcome of an investigation.
