Hurricane Irma Damaged More Than 200 Homes In Pasco

Pasco County has released preliminary statistics related to Hurricane Irma's impacts.

NEW PORT RICHEY, FL — As Pasco County residents continue to recover from Hurricane Irma’s visit earlier in the week, officials have released preliminary statistics related to the storm’s impacts.

Although a financial estimate is not yet available, the county’s numbers illustrate how devastating the storm remained after reaching Pasco. The county’s statistics, released late Friday afternoon, are as follows:

Residences Damaged By Irma

  • 4 homes reported as destroyed
  • 56 homes suffered major damage
  • 124 homes suffered minor damage
  • 205 homes were affected

The county says its inspectors have been in the field to verify damages.

Businesses Damaged

  • 94 businesses reported damage to their properties

Electrical Outages

  • At the height of outages, Pasco County’s four power companies reported a total of 217,382 addresses without power. The county has 261,000 addresses in total.

Shelters Opened

  • A total of 26 shelters opened to provide Hurricane Irma evacuees safe haven during the storm

Roads Impacted

  • During the peak, the county said 749 roads were closed.

Food Distribution

  • Pasco County Schools provided food for 24,100 people housed in shelters.

Sandbags Given Out

  • The county reports using 606,800 sandbags during the storm. It took more than 9,500 cubic yards of sand to fill those bags.

Traffic Signal Outages

  • Following the storm, the county says the peak of traffic light outages tallied at 97.

Pump Station Outages

  • During Irma’s peak impact, Pasco had 425 pump stations go out.
