Man Killed By Garbage Truck Identified

A 48-year-old man died Monday after being struck by a garbage truck in Hudson.

HUDSON, FL — As the Florida Highway Patrol continues its investigation into a fatal Monday morning crash involving a garbage truck, it’s released more details in the case.

According to the agency, Armando Cuesta, 52, of Holiday was driving a 2009 Mack garbage truck westbound on Maryland Avenue in Hudson around 4:45 a.m. Feb. 6. As Cuesta traveled west of Triton Terrace, he struck Roderick J. Nelson, 48, with the truck.

Nelson, a highway patrol report said, was “laying in the westbound lane of Maryland Avenue.” Just why Nelson was in the road “under dark and foggy weather conditions” remains unknown.

Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation with charges pending the outcome.
