Moon Lake Fire Victims Benefit From Donation Drive

A local church is collecting donations for the surviving victims.

“Somebody has to step up and do something, right?” said Pastor Lad Dubovsky. 

The donations are going to the victims of the fire that broke out Monday at 10637 Wabayo St.

Twin 3-year-olds Micah and Miah Shaver, a boy and a girl respectively, died at the scene, according to officials. Their mother, Shannon Garza, 30, received burns on her arms and was taken to Bayonet Point Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Two otlder children were not at home at the time of the fire and are still live.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated. One thing is clear: the trailer is basically a mess.

Dubovsky said that Garza and her children were not part of his congregation, but that he has dropped off donations of food and clothes to them in the past. He is working on finding a larger location for dropoffs.

The Tampa Bay Chapter of the Red Cross has contacted the family, but right now is recommending that donations for the family be left with the church for now.

The Tampa Bay Times reports  that neighbor Gary Mackey is also collecting donations for the family and is seting up Facebook pages to do so. He can be phoned at (727) 375-6142.
