NAMI Pasco Walk to Shine a Light on Mental Health and Honor Heroes
Join the Walk – Be the Difference
When Alex first started with NAMI Pasco, he was at rock bottom. The weight of depression and anxiety had left him feeling isolated and hopeless. “I didn’t know where to turn,” he recalls. “But NAMI Pasco gave me a place where I finally felt understood. I wasn’t alone anymore.”
Alex’s story is not unique. Every day, people in our community face the silent struggle of mental health challenges. That’s why NAMIWalks Pasco isn’t just a walk, it’s a statement that no one should have to face mental health challenges alone. It’s about showing up, breaking down stigma, and creating a community where mental health is treated with the same urgency and compassion as physical health.
On Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., NAMI Pasco will host its annual NAMIWalks Pasco at Pasco Safety Town (15380 Alric Pottberg Rd., Shady Hills). This free, family-friendly event will feature a one-mile walk, live music, family activities, and the highly anticipated Heroes of Hope Awards, honoring those making a meaningful difference in the mental health space.

Why It Matters
Stigma keeps too many people from seeking help. The fear of being judged or misunderstood often means people suffer in silence for years. NAMI Pasco is committed to changing that by offering free support groups, educational programs, wellness coaching, and more to over 1,000 people each year including veterans, frontline workers, teens, and seniors.

“Our mission is simple, no one should feel alone in their mental health journey,” said Debbie L. Proulx, Executive Director of NAMI Pasco. “NAMIWalks is our way of showing the community that there’s strength in coming together. When people walk with us, they’re saying, ‘We see you, and we’re with you.’”
Honoring Mental Health Heroes
One of the most powerful moments of the event will be the Heroes of Hope Awards. These awards recognize individuals and organizations that have made a significant impact on mental health in Pasco County. This year, NAMI Pasco has added a new category, the Paw-sitive Impact Award to honor animals that provide emotional support or therapy.
“We’ve seen firsthand how animals can be a source of healing and comfort,” Proulx said. “It’s time to recognize that support comes in all forms, even wagging tails.”
NAMI Pasco is currently accepting nominations for the Heroes of Hope Awards until April 1, 2025. You can get all the category details at www.namipasco.org/2025-big-events Community members are encouraged to nominate anyone, a friend, therapist, first responder, or even their loyal pet who has made a meaningful impact in the mental health space.
More Than Just a Walk
NAMIWalks Pasco is not just about raising awareness, it’s about raising the funds needed to keep NAMI Pasco’s services free and available to everyone. With 260 support groups offered annually the need is greater than ever.
“These services are life-changing,” said Ashley Silva, Volunteer Assistant of NAMI Pasco. “The support I’ve found through NAMI Pasco has completely changed how I navigate life. I’ve gained coping skills, confidence, and a sense of belonging I didn’t know was possible.”
Proulx echoed that sentiment. “Our programs save lives. Every dollar raised during NAMIWalks Pasco helps us continue to offer the support people count on. We need the community’s help to keep going.”
Join the Movement
Registration for NAMIWalks Pasco is free, but donations are encouraged to support NAMI Pasco’s programs. Participants can join an existing team or create their own at www.namiwalks.org/pasco.
“If you’ve ever wanted to make a difference, this is your chance,” Proulx said. “Show up. Walk with us. Together, we can make mental health support available to everyone who needs it.”
